The forecast is bright for this Churchill teacher
North East ISD teacher Ken Slama is proof, teachers can do it all!
Monday through Friday, Slama teaches chemistry at Churchill High School. But on the weekends, you can catch him on KSAT 12, keeping our community up-to-date on the latest weather.
Before coming to Churchill, Slama was a broadcast meteorologist in Duluth, Minnesota. But he wanted to spend more time with his family and be closer to his parents, so he packed up his family and moved to San Antonio to teach.
“Being a teacher is amazing. The kids are amazing. I still take advantage whenever I have some fancy weather thing happening, I will give the students a little weather lesson.”
As Slama incorporates weather patterns in his lessons, he often delivers personalized Churchill lunch forecasts for his students. Letting them know it may be a little muggy, but they shouldn’t see any rain.
While Slama thought he was done with TV, TV wasn’t done with him. He saw a message in a Facebook group that KSAT needed a temporary meteorologist, so Slama applied and got the job.
“I love teaching, but it is fun to have this opportunity to do weather and provide the forecasts for the community.”
Slama is proof you don’t have to follow just one dream. There’s a 100% chance you can follow them all.
You can catch Slama, possibly throwing up the “WC”, on KSAT’s weekend evening newscasts for the next few weeks.
