“We are here to help them be successful."

Nov. 7 -11 is National School Psychology Appreciation Week.

Our Educational Diagnosticians and Licensed Specialists in School Psychology (LSSP) are a lifeline to our students, parents and teachers. They provide answers, support and direction to our students and families navigating physical, intellectual or academic challenges.

Lauren Kim is in her first year as an LSSP with North East ISD. She works with students at Clear Spring Elementary School and Wilshire Elementary School. Her whole goal is to help students find their path to academic success. If a student is struggling in school, Kim works to determine if a student might have a learning disability or behavioral issue getting in their way.

“We are here to help them be successful, and that won’t always look the same for everyone,” said Kim. “But seeing the aftermath of the evaluation is my favorite part. Seeing a student show progress because of whatever resources we could provide—that’s my favorite part of the job.”

While Kim is the one who does the evaluation, she will be the first to tell you it’s a group effort. Kim works with the student’s parents, teachers, and our District’s speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists and others to help students find success.

Thank you, Lauren, and all of our LSSPs and Educational Diagnosticians for making a difference #theNEISDway.
