Being named the KSAT Educator of the Month for the month of January was a total surprise to Amy Dodge. But her fourth grade students at Hidden Forest Elementary School weren’t shocked at all.

“It was really a shock but I’m very honored,” said Dodge.

Another person who wasn’t shocked to see Dodge nominated was Emily-Mae Fewell, the STEPS teacher at Hidden Forest. She actually nominated Dodge for the recognition a few months ago and was proud to watch her get the recognition she deserves.

“She always brings the energy, not just for her students, but for teachers too,” said Fewell. “She has a very encouraging and uplifting attitude. She always goes above and beyond to find a way to include students and inspire them.”

Dodge believes her secret to success is centered around building and maintaining relationships with her students. It has served her well over her more than 20 years at North East ISD, including the past 11 at Hidden Forest.

“If you build relationships and have a fun time, the rest will fall into place,” said Dodge. “When the students feel empowered, they’ll go and help another student and the learning spreads that way.”

One educator is selected each month to receive a $500 Visa gift card from Firstmark Credit Union, as well as a chance to be highlighted on KSAT. Nominate an NEISD teacher today!
