The school nurses at North East ISD are exceptional. The students, families and staff in this District already know how kind, compassionate and resourceful they are. Now, all of San Antonio knows.
“The San Antonio Express-News decided to do a spread on nurses because they figured with this COVID pandemic response that we had really dealt with a lot of stress, and we were that backbone in so many different areas,” said Lizet Garza, Eisenhower Middle School nurse. “I was nominated, and actually four of us in NEISD were nominated, so that made me proud.”
Garza was named the overall winner in the School Nurse category in the 2022 San Antonio Express-News Salute to Nurses program. The three other NEISD finalists in the School Nurse category include Lina Herrera from Redland Oaks Elementary School, Katy Zamora from Wilderness Oak Elementary School and Jaclyn Cuellar from Regency Place Elementary School.
"I don’t do this job to be rewarded. I was happier to know my cohorts were right there with me,” said Garza. “It was not just about me. I was so excited to see how our District stands out, as I’ve always known it stood out. That’s why my kids go to NEISD schools. I went to NEISD. My husband is a product of NEISD. That’s what made me the most excited.”
