Melissa Mendiola

Since 2018, I have had the privilege of serving as the Family Specialist at Roosevelt High School.  In this role, I partner with students, parents, and community members to ensure that every family has the tools and support needed for success.  My work focuses on assessing family needs, developing personalized support plans, and connecting families with vital community resources to help remove barriers to student achievement.

I provide both in-person and virtual parent sessions, offer guidance and practical support in areas such as parenting education, home management, and crisis intervention, and facilitate partnerships and create engaging family events designed to strengthen relationships and foster a welcoming, inclusive school culture.

My responsibilities also include advocating on behalf of families, conducting home visits, and collaborating with educators, social workers, and community providers to ensure the well-being of students.  Each year, parents are invited to celebrate their accomplishments alongside other NEISD families at the Parent Engagement Leadership Academy Closing ceremony.

After earning my Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Spanish from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, I served Bexar County in the Child Welfare Field for more than 27 years.  It was at Sam Houston State University where I first discovered my passion for public service and serving families.  I remain deeply committed to empowering families through education, advocacy, and community engagement so that every student can reach their fullest potential.

I invite you to explore my monthly Family Engagement Calendar and join me and other families in upcoming sessions and events.  Together, we can build strong partnerships that support both students and families.
