About the Program

  • This program prepares students for entry-level employment in the welding field.  Students gain knowledge and skills in safety, tool usage, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Stick Metal Arc Welding, oxyfuel cutting and welding, and more.

     

    Students are not required to participate for all four years; however, students who wish to pursue a career in the Welding industry are encouraged to do so.  Students must participate for two years to earn a Welding Business and Industry Endorsement.

Year 1 This course provides an introduction and lays a solid foundation for those students entering the construction or craft skilled areas. The course provides knowledge of construction safety, construction mathematics, and common hand and power tools. This course is a hands-on approach that provides skill specific construction methods, and occupation skills to assist the student in obtaining and maintaining employment. This is the level 1 course for Carpentry, Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, and Welding 9-12 8173x, 8174x 2.0
Year 2 Welding I provides the knowledge, skills, and technologies required for employment in metal technology systems. Students will develop knowledge and skills related to this system and apply them to personal career development. This course supports integration of academic and technical knowledge and skills. 10th-12th 8175x 2.0
Year 3 Welding II builds on the knowledge and skills developed in Welding I. Students will develop advanced welding concepts and skills as related to personal and career development. Students will integrate academic and technical knowledge and skills. Students will have opportunities to reinforce, apply, and transfer knowledge and skills to a variety of settings and problems. 11th-12th 8179x 2.0
Year 4 Students in this course participate in work-based learning. Students can earn credit while participating in a paid/unpaid internship. All student placements must be approved by the Construction Technology Academy. 12th 8180x 2.0
