North East ISD students in the Architecture program at the Design and Technology Academy (DATA) at Roosevelt High School recently embarked on an eye-opening excursion into the world of eco-conscious living.
During a field trip to the San Antonio Botanical Gardens, students got the chance to learn from the President and Vice President of Elbow Room, a company known for designing and building flexible living spaces. The students got hands-on with activities and gained invaluable insights into the world of tiny house design.
“This field trip was a game-changer for us,” said Architecture Design Teacher Katy Philbrick. “It’s one thing to study sustainable design concepts and flexible living spaces in theory, but experiencing them in practice brings a whole new level of understanding and appreciation. Our students are truly empowered to push the boundaries of eco-conscious and innovative architecture.”
The students also explored the new Watersaver Community at the Botanical Gardens and learned about the relationship between landscaping and environmental preservation.
“Our students returned to DATA invigorated and ready to infuse their tiny house design project with innovative sustainability solutions,” said Philbrick. “These budding architects are poised to leave an indelible mark on the landscape of sustainable living.”
