Teacher Feature: Fox Run's Jason Sellers

“It’s not called Fox Walk. It’s called Fox Run.”

It’s a joke that never gets old to Fox Run Elementary School PE teacher Jason Sellers. He’s been teaching at Fox Run for 20 years. But physical education at Fox Run is much more than running—it’s education disguised as play.

There’s Rock, Paper, Scissors, Run, that really gets kids competitive.

Fiddlesticks, which involves a pool noodle, hopping, skipping and walking like a duck.

And then there’s everyone’s favorite gym activity, the parachute.

“I want to be able to utilize and introduce them to a variety of topics here in the gym,” said Sellers. “If I can get the kids to buy into something, it doesn’t have to be football or basketball, but if I can get them to buy into something that we’re doing here in the gym, then I’m hoping to build that lifelong love of physical fitness that they can continue on through their adulthood.”

And while Sellers loves the relationships he develops with his students, he’s also focused on connecting with their parents. Fox Run hosts family 5ks, skate nights, and all kinds of monthly activities to bring parents and students together for some fun physical fitness.

“I fell in love with this community; they really get involved. When the parents come, they aren’t sitting on the sidelines; they are running around and dancing with us. The reason why we’re all here is we’re trying to prepare the next generation for success. And whatever part I can have in that -- to help these kids to grow and help these kids to fulfill what they want to in their dreams -- I think that’s a big part of why I’m here.”
