Not JUST a custodian

Several pictures of Robert Potter

Robert Potter loves his job. He’s the head custodian at Woodstone Elementary School.

He’s made it his mission to keep the school clean for the past 20 years. While he would say he’s just a custodian, Potter is clearly so much more.

He participates in PE classes.

He will sit on the floor with the students and enjoy storytime.

He is such a big deal; students have even dressed up like him!

“I am just a normal guy. But I love it here. Sometimes the kids ask me to do stuff, so I try to join them when I can,” said Potter. “It can be hard to find a job you like, but I love it here. It’s like heaven.”

When Potter isn’t at Woodstone, he’s working on classic cars at home. And while he enjoys that hobby, he can’t get enough of the students and staff at Woodstone.

“If I am not here, I feel like I am missing out,” said Potter. “These are good kids. Kids are going to make a mess; they can’t help it, but I am glad to help them. Sometimes, I think they make little spills on purpose to get me to come over. I think that’s kind of sweet. You can’t beat it here.”

Potter is just one of many amazing custodians at NEISD.

National Custodian Day is celebrated on October 2, and we want to thank and celebrate all the hard-working NEISD custodians who work to keep our schools clean and connect with our students.

Are you looking to make an impact too? We are hiring. View our NEISD careers and apply today!
