Software Used in Classes

It is not required, but I do recommend it, for your student to have a compatible computer or to download these at home.  This is an informational page and downloading these at home is optional.  All assignments requiring Unreal, or the other software listed here will be set up so they can be completed on school computers.

However, if your student is passionate about 3D Modeling, Animation, or Video Game Design, I highly recommend that they practice outside of class.

Animation and 3D modeling Software

Autodesk Maya: Is free for educational use and can be downloaded from the Autodesk website at:

Autodesk: https://www.autodesk.com/education/edu-software/overview?sorting=featured&page=1

You will need to create an account and get approved through their website.  Click on the "Get Started" blue button.  If you do not have a login, create an account.  The Autodesk website will ask for your school's name for approval.  Use: Roosevelt High School (San Antonio, TX)Roosevelt High School (San Antonio, TX)Roosevelt High School (San Antonio, TX)Roosevelt High School (San Antonio, TX)

Maya is compatible for both PC (Windows) and Mac. Make sure you download the version we are using in class, so it is compatible with our projects.  Since this software is updated every year, our version at school also changes. Don't worry, you can have multiple versions downloaded and installed if needed.  I will update the version number here on this page once I know what we will have. This usually happens the week before school starts.

Blender is an Open-Source creation. Free to use for any purpose, forever.

Quixel is a texturing software that we will be using.  It is free when used with Unreal Engine.  You will need to use your Epic Games login to use it for free.  Once you have an Epic Games login, we will be using:

Bridge: Is now part of Unreal Engine

Game Design Software

I am using Unreal Engine for our class.  It is free for educational use and can be found here:

Unreal Engine: https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/

Make sure you download the version we are using in class for compatibility.  Since this software updates yearly, the version we use in class also updates at the beginning of the year.  Once I know the version, I will update that information here.  This usually happens the week before school starts.
