AMP partners with H-E-B

AMP students get the chance to work with industry partners to learn skills that will help them land jobs in the future. Members of H-E-B’s meat processing team recently showed our students how they break down certain cuts of meat to prepare them for sale in stores.

“I don’t know what I want to do after high school, but I thought this was a really cool opportunity,” said AMP sophomore Ryan Decoulaz.

AMP Senior Luke Anderson added, “This is extremely valuable. This gives me first-hand experience and knowledge about what that industry is like and whether I want to pursue it. Now, I know industry leaders who might help me get my foot in the door with a job.”

The H-E-B employees who recently visited AMP have over 100 years of combined experience working for H-E-B’s meat department. They discussed safety, cuts of meat, how to find flaws, and the best way to present certain cuts of meat for purchase. So, these students really got a masterclass in what these skills can do for their futures.

“It’s critical to have partners like H-E-B because they can show these students that these skills are viable and valuable in the industry,” said AMP teacher Josh Anderson. “The students can learn it in the classroom from a teacher, but when we have industry partners come in, it reinforces why these skills are important.”

There’s still time to apply for the Agriscience Magnet Program at Madison High School for the next school year, but the deadline is Monday, Feb. 5.
