It was a big day for seven North East ISD students who dream of becoming teachers.
The North East ISD Council of PTAs recognized our 2023 Virgil T. Blossom Scholarship winners today. This scholarship goes to one student from every high school who plans to pursue education in college. Each recipient will receive $625 a semester for up to eight semesters.
Proud parents, teachers, principals, and staff supported the scholarship recipients. Each student was introduced by their high school principal before sharing with the audience what inspired them to choose education as their field of study.
Johnson High School senior Sofia Beauchamp recalled the teacher who inspired her to pursue the profession.
“I was new to Encino Park and my 3rd grade teacher, Ms. Villanueva, was my rock that year.”
Churchill High School senior Makayla Ramos will never forget the two teachers who inspired her.
“Mr. Steven Stolte and Ms. Jessica Hess, they helped me grow a lot, and taught me how a good teacher makes a difference in a student’s life.”
