12/16/21 UPDATE: The Coker Cubs are a cut above the rest! Out of every elementary school in San Antonio, Coker ES donated the most pounds of food to the San Antonio Food Bank during its November FOOD4SA campaign! Coker’s campus wide cereal drive resulted in a donation of 2,036 boxes of cereal, smashing their original goal of 1,700.
The SA Food Bank and Security Service Federal Credit Union teamed up to surprise Coker with a $250 check. Way to go Coker!
It took 7 minutes and 39 seconds to topple 2,036 cereal boxes lined through the halls of Coker Elementary School. Gifted and Talented (GT) students in Margaret McDaniel’s class organized a schoolwide cereal drive benefiting the San Antonio Food Bank. Their goal was 1,700 boxes of cereal. The Coker community rallied together to smash their original goal #theNEISDway.
“Our GT students have done a phenomenal job working with Mrs. McDaniel and the food bank,” said Coker Principal Elizabeth Fischer. “I’m proud of our Coker Cubs for fighting hunger and feeding hope in our community.”
Students put their STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) skills to the test by studying and then designing their own Rube Goldberg Reaction Machine. Cereal boxes weaved through the entire campus and all went down in a domino effect before they were donated to the San Antonio Food Bank.
