Mrs. Cheri Marks

I am thrilled to be here at Northwood Elementary School! I've just completed my 2nd year in Kindergarten! I’ve recently relocated to San Antonio from Southern California due to my husband’s job relocation.  While I've thoroughly enjoyed teaching Kindergarten here at Northwood, my passion is teaching 1st grade....and it's with great joy and excitement that I am letting you all know that I will be  moving to 1st grade this upcoming school year!

I have a bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies from California State University Northridge and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University Irvine. I have just completed my 20th year of teaching.  Most of my teaching career has been in 1st grade. I’ve also taught…2nd grade, 4th grade, and a multi age K/1 class.  In addition, I was also the reading intervention teacher and District Reading Coach. I take great pleasure in teaching reading and writing to our little emergent readers and writers.

I am married and I have 3 sons…Justin 26, Ryan 21 and Brandon…18. In addition, I have 2 stepsons, Garrett 22 and Travis 20. My 3 sons remained in California to finish college.  My 2 stepsons have recently made San Antonio their home and they love it!

When I am not teaching, I enjoy reading, shopping, Pinteresting and going to the movies. Above all I love spending time with my family.

My favorite part about teaching is getting to know my students. Children learn best when they feel connected with their teacher and know they are loved and appreciated. The students in my classroom become a part of my heart. I love seeing them grow as learners throughout the year. I model being a lifelong learner and enjoy seeing a love of learning come to life in each one of my students!

Please feel free to contact me at any time. My conference time is from 8:50 – 9:40 a.m. daily.

I'm looking forward to an awesome year, making memories and having tons of fun!
