Stephanie Chew-Barajas

Hello! My name is Stephanie Barajas and I am thrilled to be teaching 4th grade at Wetmore Elementary! When my husband and I moved to San Antonio from New Jersey, we wanted to be sure our children had a great education. After much research, we chose NEISD. That means I am not only a teacher with the district, but I am also a proud NEISD parent!

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Applied Economics from Virginia Tech. After moving to San Antonio, I became a certified teacher through the Alternative Teacher Certification program at Region 20 and began my career in education as a Special Education Teacher.  Since that time, I have taught 4th and 5th grade.  In 2010, I accepted the Superintendent's Award for launching a Redirection Program at Hardy Oak.  I received the Superintendent's Award again in 2011 for my work in helping to organize Hardy Oak's Science night and in 2017 for organizing Hardy Oak's first STEAM Night.   In the 2014-2015 school year I was awarded the PTA Lifetime Membership award, and I was honored to have been voted as Hardy Oak Teacher of the Year by my colleagues.  Being the Hardy Oak Teacher of the Year allowed me to be selected as one of three finalists for North East Independent School District Elementary Teacher of the Year. In 2021, I began my journey with the NEISD Inspiring Innovators Cohort, a group of teacher leaders who are focused on future-ready teaching and learning. My collaboration with these amazing colleagues has brought exciting new ways to learn to my classroom.

I am excited to bring my experience and passion for teaching to my newest Wetmore Rangers! My mission is to not only teach the required standards, but to help instill a love of learning in children.  My goal is that my classroom is a nurturing place for children to take academic risks and to have fun during the learning process.  As a parent of five children with different learning abilities, including one with ADHD and one who benefited from a Special Education program, I understand some of the challenges parents and students face.  I know that a successful school experience for students is built on a strong alliance between parents and school.  I look forward to collaborating with you to make this a fantastic school year for your child!
