Mr. Joshua Barajas

Greetings! And welcome to my webpage! Let me tell you a little about myself. I grew up and attended school in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas near the US/Mexico border. I attended the University of Texas- Pan American in 2004 and graduated with a Degree in Behavioral Sciences. I have a plethora of experience in working with at-risk youth and in mental health case management. In 2015 I discovered my passion for working with children when I began working in the field of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) as a Registered behavior technician. My primary responsibility was to work with students who were diagnosed on the autism spectrum by teaching them the everyday skills (hygiene, feeding, personal care) they needed to promote their independence. After a year working in the field I realized what the next step in my career should be: Teaching.

In 2016, I enrolled an Alternative Certification Program (Texas Teachers) and began my career in Special Education teaching. I continued my work in ABA as I completed my training to become a teacher. Then in 2019 I joined the staff here at Northern Hills as the Redirection/Self-contained teacher. Now in my second year I am eager to continue to the work I started: Working with our students on thier Social Emotional Learning and helping them on their path to success!
