      Degrees and Certifications:

      Mrs. Walonda Whitaker

My name is Walonda Whitaker, and I have 18 years of experience in education. I hold an ED.S in Leadership in Education Administration, a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction, and a Bachelors in Biology.

I have been happily married to my best friend for 24 years, and we have two adult children. My oldest will obtain a doctorate from LSU in May 2024, and my youngest currently attends Texas State.

I have a strong passion for fostering a positive and nurturing learning environment. Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to ensuring that every student receives a well-rounded education that not only focuses on academic excellence, but also on character development and personal growth.

This is my first year as principal at Harris Middle school. I was a teacher at Madison High School before transitioning into administration. I have learned the expectations of this community and know this is where I want to continue to serve. I know I am walking into a school with a long tradition of excellence that has been built on years of quality instruction, strong leadership, and a community that values and supports their school.

My personal belief is that a school is more than a building where students and teachers meet to learn, but rather a community of people that fosters a love of education in children, and whose goal is to nurture the development of children entrusted in our care.

At Harris, I will be dedicated to continuing to prepare our students for high school and beyond. As a community, we will work together to develop our students’ academic successes, while helping them grow as leaders. We will also help them discover and grow talents in extracurricular activities, community service, and be prepared to not only succeed, but lead their generation through an ever-changing world.
