Exploratory Learning & STEAM at our Library
What is Exploratory Learning?
Our makerspace is a place where students can create, invent, tinker and experiment. It is an area that fosters creativity and innovation and gives students a chance to take on challenges based on areas in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math).

- Path-programs Dash to follow paths and avoid obstacles using drag and drop.
- Blockly-is a drag and drop coding program, like hour of code, for Dot and Dash
- Wonder-has challenges to teach and guide Dot and Dash. You can turn Dot into a trumpet, Pong arcade or a Magic 8ball. Dash can be a ferocious lion, dodge asteroids or play a game of Marco Polo. You can even code Dash and Dot to talk to each other.
Little Bits

Wish List
Families,
Exploratory learning or Makerspaces is a big movement in libraries. It gives students opportunities for authentic learning experiences that allow students to be thinkers, innovators, creators, coders, engineers, and many other competencies. I am excited to bring high technology and low technology options for all students to participate in this type of learning. When it is all prepared I would like to invite parents to come by and experience what your children will experience. In order for this to be successful I am looking for supplies to help with the low tech activities. Some of these things are common household items that won’t cost anything, items you may want to get rid of, and/or some items found at local stores (HEB, Dollar stores, Walmart, etc.). I appreciate your help and support!
