Sarah Parsons

I grew up on a small farm and cattle ranch in rural northeast Texas, and spent a wonderful childhood playing in the wildflowers and picking vegetables in our garden. In high school, I participated in UIL Lincoln-Douglas Debate and Informative Extemporaneous Speech, as well as One-Act Play, and was a State Finalist as a senior in Speech. I moved to San Marcos, Texas to attend college and received my Bachelor's degree from (Southwest) Texas State University in 2002, majoring in Political Science and History.  I moved to St. Petersburg, Florida in 2007 and attended the University of South Florida in Tampa. I earned my Master’s degree in Library and Information Science in 2010, focused on service to children and teens. When I came back home to Texas, I earned my teaching certification from Texas A & M - Commerce as a Generalist EC-6, and have since earned my ESL certification. I moved to San Antonio in May, 2018 to be closer to my brother and his family, and I've loved every minute of being in this beautiful city!

Now I spend my weekends judging high school speech and debate, prose and poetry and Congress on the UIL, TFA, and NSDA circuits and spending time with my 12 year-old nephew. Our favorite places to hang out are the San Antonio Botanical Garden and the Witte Museum, as well as the occasional trip to Dave and Busters, of course!

I've been in education for more than ten years, and I'm so excited to be teaching third grade at Serna Elementary! Teaching is my "calling", and I am passionate in my desire to ensure every child I teach receives a quality education and my love and attention. Regardless of age, I feel students who believe teachers care for them as individuals work harder and have a higher self-esteem. I am blessed to have an amazing class and I can't wait to see what the 2019-2020 school year will bring!
