Hello, my name is Gina Fernández. I am originally from Del Rio, Texas. I am married to a wonderful husband and have a 22-year-old son, who attended Texas State University. He just graduated Cum Laude receiving a bachelor’s in construction science management & a Minor in Business Administration. I am proud to announce he has started working as an Assistant Superintendent at SpawGlass General Contractors. I am also a proud mommy of a Yorkie named Tank.

My experience starts in my hometown, I taught 5^th grade for 9 years. I taught at Calderon Elementary School and started at Ruben Chavira Elementary School. My husband’s job took us to Laredo, Texas where I taught 4^th grade for 5 years. I was at Borchers Elementary School and Malakoff Elementary School. Then we relocated to San Antonio, Texas where I have taught 13 years at Walzem Elementary. This will be my 3rd year in First Grade, and I am very excited to teach First Grade Bilingual again. I will be teaching right next door to a childhood friend Mrs. Erika De Hoyos.

I am celebrating twenty-seven years of teaching this year. Waking up at 5:00 A.M. every day is something I do with joy!!! I love to come to school and be a witness of my student’s knowledge. This year I will be a witness virtually!!! For the very first time EVER all of us will be "NEW" to teaching. The training that I took this summer and with the help of my First Grade TEAM. I am confident that I will be a better teacher. I am sure that we will get through this. I am looking forward to a great and successful year at Walzem Elementary!
