MacArthur’s ‘Iris Bulbs’ gets special studio tour

MacArthur Iris Bulbs with Shelly LaresMacArthur High School’s Varsity Treble A Cappella Ensemble, The Iris Bulbs, recently visited Shellshock Records Studio.

The group was invited to take a studio tour by Shelly Lares, award-winning Tejano singer-songwriter and UTSA Artist-in-Residence. She commended the group for the work they are doing to infuse Tejano and Latin music into the a cappella genre.

This was an incredible opportunity for The Iris Bulbs to network and learn from a professional artist in the industry, and gain insights into the world of music technology and business. She gave them a tour of the studio, showed heartfelt and surprising mementos, and shared inspiring advice and stories of her journey as an artist.

The Iris Bulbs are the newest a cappella ensemble to come from MacArthur’s vocal music program. MacArthur a cappella has had a long-standing record of success and excellence, such as their nationally recognized group, PFC. The goal for The Iris Bulbs this year is to shed a light on San Antonio culture, as well as highlight MacArthur’s dual language program.

The Iris Bulbs are under the direction of Christopher Cross and Kimberly Mendez. The singers are Amber Petzold, Zoey Arnold, Leah Braun, Kylie Martinez, Journey Moreno, Isabella Nuñez and Madalyn Walker.
