Owlettes Who Code learn from the best

The Olmos Elementary School Owlettes Who Code club are learning from the best!

Olmos fourth and fifth grade students in the all-girl coding club recently explored future career fields during STEM Girl Day at the University of Texas in Austin. STEM Girl Day at UT Austin is a celebration of all areas of science, technology, engineering and math.

Kindergarten through eighth grade students had the opportunity to explore STEM through hands-on activities hosted by scientists, engineers, astronomers, mathematicians and other STEM enthusiasts from student organizations, research centers, corporate partners and community organizations.

“The girls had an awesome time creating products while collaborating with current university students who shared their STEM knowledge and expertise with them,” said club sponsor Debbie Mollicone. “Many of the Owlettes Who Code club members were excited about one day applying to become a STEM major in college!”

Former Coding Club members and Olmos GT students who are now in middle and high school helped chaperone the event while also getting a chance to learn about STEM majors in college.

The Owlettes Who Code is funded by our North East Educational Foundation (NEEF).
