It’s that “first day of school feeling” all over again.

North East ISD students and staff are back! But this school year is especially exciting for two new teachers at Windcrest Elementary School. Third-grade teacher Nathan Smith and second-grade teacher Cassandra Ayala actually attended Windcrest when they were students.

“It’s exciting,” said Smith. “It feels good to be back.”

Smith and Ayala also graduated from Roosevelt High School. So, this morning was really special when they got to see their new students welcomed by Roosevelt spirit squads and wrestling team members. Watching future Rough Riders marvel at the current Rough Riders as they walked into Windcrest for the first time was inspiring.

In the classroom, Smith started with a joke of the day and played a game so the students could learn more about him. Down the hall, in Ayala’s room, students filled out questionnaires about their favorite colors and animals so she could learn more about them.

“I am so excited to start building these relationships with my students,” said Ayala. “We are just getting started, but I am excited to see where this year will take us.”

Smith and Ayala are now giving a new generation of Windcrest Shining Stars the same educational foundation they started with.
