Screenings 2025-2026

Oak Meadow will commence state-mandated screenings in September. Screenings include:

Hearing and vision for grades PreK, Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 5th, as well as any new students and any students referred by parents or teachers. 

Acanthosis Nigricans screening (means briefly looking at the neck, typically during hearing screening, as it's a potential indicator of insulin resistance and risk for Type II Diabetes): 1st, 3rd, 5th grade, as well as any new 2nd or 4th grade students.

Spinal Screenings will take place in November or December and only apply to 5th grade girls per state law. These will be done by a female NEISD nurse, not Nurse Luke. Specific details will follow closer to the date.

Dental Screenings for 3rd graders will take place in the Spring Semester, typically in February or March. More specifics will follow for this, as well.

If your student has an elevated temperature (100.0 degrees Fahrenheit or higher) or diarrhea (3 loose stools in 24 hours), the Student Handbook and Texas DSHS requires the student to stay home until they have been fever/diarrhea free without use of medication for at least 24 hours.

Rashes that could be potentially contagious are required to be resolved or cleared by a healthcare provider to attend school.

If your student is having drainage and inflammation of the eye, please also have your student return when symptoms have resolved or whenever a healthcare provider states they can return to school.
