      Mrs. Rocio Gutierrez-Ochoa

My name is Rocio Gutierrez-Ochoa and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead Oak Grove,  a school with such rich traditions and family involvement. I can’t think of a better place to be!

I have been dedicated to the field of education for 22 years and have worked with a variety of students ranging in age from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. I have taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, and was an Instructional Reading Coach before moving to an Assistant Principal role. Prior to coming to Oak Grove, I was at Olmos Elementary in NEISD, where I served as the Assistant Principal for 4 years. I am eager to bring my skills as an educational and instructional leader to Oak Grove Elementary and partner with you to ensure your child’s success.

While leading my Oak Grove community, we will focus on healthy, social-emotional learning, the use of data to guide instruction, and rigorous academic experience in all classrooms. This includes supportive interventions and/or enrichment based on individual students’ needs. Student growth will be encouraged and celebrated each day!

It is important to me that everyone who steps through our doors – staff members, students, and parents – is excited to be here! This attitude will enable us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, fun, and nurturing environment. Building strong relationships with parents, students, staff, and our community is also very important to me. My door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to call, email, or stop by to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas you might have throughout the year. We are a team!

I’d like to share a little about myself and my family as we get to know each other. I am married to my husband, Moises, who is also an educator, and we have two children named Anthony and Ashlee. Anthony is following in our footsteps as an educator and is currently an Instructional Assistant. Ashlee is a senior at the International School of the Americas. She keeps us busy with dance, orchestra, and other school events.  She is thrilled to be immersed in the language that she developed so well in NEISD’s fabulous Dual Language program. We adopted and love our two fur babies 6 years ago and they complete our little family.

Thank you for entrusting me to lead our entire Oak Grove community!

      Oak Grove Community:

It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself as the newly appointed Assistant Principal of Oak Grove ES. I am honored to join a community of hard-working, passionate, and caring individuals dedicated to helping all students succeed.

For over 17 years, I have served in various capacities, such as an instructional assistant, bilingual/dual language classroom teacher, math instructional coach, and most recently a bilingual instructional coach. I am confident that my experience, passion, and drive will help me support teachers and staff in providing students with high-quality instruction and tools to become successful.

Personally, I am married with two children. Both my kids will be seniors this fall. My daughter is expected to graduate from college in December and my son will graduate from high school in the spring. In addition, we have four dogs that make our family complete.

I look forward to a great start of the school year and working with the dedicated teachers, staff, students, and community of Oak Grove.
