Ms. Melissa Cruz

Welcome!

I am a dedicated music educator with four years of experience teaching elementary music at Walzem Elementary. I earned my Bachelor of Music and Texas All-Level Certification (EC–12) from Texas Lutheran University, (GO BULLDOGS!) which laid a strong foundation for my teaching journey. Music has always been a central part of my life, and I’m passionate about inspiring young learners. I believe in the transformative power of music to foster creativity and build confidence in children.

In my classroom, I aim to create a positive and inclusive atmosphere where every student feels valued and encouraged to express themselves. I’m committed to the idea that music is vital for childhood development, and I share this passion with my students, their families, and the wider community.

Beyond teaching, I am active with the Texas Lutheran Alumni Board Association, play in the UIW community orchestra, serve as a drummer at my church, and participate in mentoring programs. These experiences enhance my growth as an educator and enrich my journey as a musician. 

When I’m not in the classroom, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, crafting, and exploring the outdoors.
