Safety experts visit Johnson

Chief presenting to parentsJohnson parent presentationNorth East ISD safety experts visited Johnson High School to talk to parents about school safety this week. It was a presentation organized by their PTSA.

Parents heard directly from NEISD Chief of Police Wally McCampbell, Safety and Emergency Specialist Andrew Olivarez, and Senior Director of Safety and Security Paul Duran.

With backgrounds as a San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) and SWAT officer, school resource officer and retired special agent with the Secret Service, they are combining decades of experience with comprehensive efforts in prevention and response.

“The ying and yang of you working together is awesome,” said one father. “Prevention and response are both so important.”

One of their biggest messages was that they cannot do their job alone.

“Safety is truly a community approach,” said Duran. “It has to be everyone helping to identify students in distress and what schools can do to help.”

Students, parents, staff and community members must all feel comfortable bringing forward any concern right away. And there are several ways to do this.

All tips can be easily submitted online at neisd.net/tipline.

Or you can call the North East Police Department at 210-407-0925.

If it’s an emergency, call 911.  It takes all of us to be #NEISDsafe
