• Curriculum and Graduate Profile

     

    The International School of the Americas provides an honors curriculum with four grade levels of instruction. Teachers create course materials to meet the unique needs and abilities of our students through both traditional and non-traditional teaching methods. We offer College Board Advanced Placement courses offered in English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, U.S. History, Government and Politics, Human Geography, Psychology, Calculus AB, Biology, Physics I, and Spanish Language and Culture, with more A.P. courses available at our host campus, Legacy of Educational Excellence (LEE) High School. Gifted and Talented programs are offered in mathematics and English. We offer a variety of elective courses in social studies, English, art, and science. Other elective courses and world languages courses are offered through Legacy of Educational Excellence (LEE) High School.

     

    ISA's curriculum is designed to promote students' development.  We also strive to nurture inquisitive and productive "Habits of Mind." The ISA Graduate Profile describes these Performance Outcomes and Habits of Mind.

    Grading: Students are encouraged to maintain and supported in gaining an average of 80% in their academic course work. Students receive honors or advanced placement weighting for most ISA courses. Exceptions to the honors weighting are Spanish I and Algebra I.

     

    Opportunities: Students at the International School of the Americas are also provided with many instructional opportunities, including multi-method teaching, small student-teacher ratios, access to the facilities of a large high school, co-curricular field trips, and co-curricular projects integrating multi-media technology. In addition, students have many opportunities for enrichment, such as freedom to create clubs and organizations, interaction with the arts community in the greater San Antonio area, emphasis on multicultural activities, travel experiences, interaction with sister schools in South Korea, Japan, and Germany, and corporate and university mentors. They also have special graduation requirements including internships, community service, and personal portfolio and exhibition projects.

     

    Library: Students at the International School of the Americas have the opportunity to engage in student research through the Legacy of Educational Excellence (LEE) High School Library. The library offers a wide variety of opportunities for research, including an online catalog, computer resources, video-conferencing, and student research resources such as books and periodicals.
