Teacher Salaries & Benefits:
NEISD employs more than 4,400 teachers. Some are funded through federal grant programs, but nearly 4,300 are funded by the General Fund. The average teacher in NEISD earns $54,374 and has 11.4 years teaching
experience.
Building Maintenance/Custodial Staff & Supplies:
NEISD has approximately 10.8 million square feet of building space to clean and maintain. In addition to custodial staff, NEISD employs trademen from all maintenance fields, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC,
carpentry, welders, locksmiths, glaziers and painters.
School Administrative Staff & Supplies:
To cover the administrative and school leadership functions at NEISD's 70+ campuses and magnet programs, the District employs approximately 220 professional administrators and 320 paraprofessional support
staff.
Instructional Aides & Instructional Supplies:
More than 650 instructional aides assist classroom teachers, primarily at our 46 elementary schools.
Curriculum Development & Instruction Staff Training:
District staff ensure a curriculum that is aligned with state standards and that builds on information the student learned the year before. They also provide teachertraining regarding Texas learning standards and
effective instructional practices, and provide staff with instructional expertise who provide support to campuses.
Guidance & Counseling:
NEISD is served by nearly 170 school counselors and 30 Licensed Specialists in School Psychology (LSSPs) who work to ensure student success at school and in the college or career patch of their
choice.
Transportation:
NEISD buses travel approximately 4.5 million miles every year transporting students to and from school.
District Administration:
About 3% of the District's budget covers the administration of the District, including the human resources, benefits and payroll functions for more than 10,000 employees, the procurement of all goods & services,
financial reporting & District Leadership.
Utilities:
Electricity, gas, & water averages approximately $1.38 per square foot for a total of about $14.9 million. In addition, $1.4 million is used for telephone and internet services, and $500K is allocated for
irrigation.
Extra-curricular Activities (Athletics, Fine Arts, etc.):
Approximately 2% of the District's budget goes toward athletics and fine art programs that occur after the school day is finished.
Librarians and Library Books:
Each campus has a librarian and most have at least a part-time library assistant.
School Nurses:
Every campus is staffed by a Registered Nurse, and either an LVN or clinic assistant.
District Police:
NEISD has its own police department of certified peace officers. Every high school and middle school has at least one officer on campus at all times during the school day.
