Greenback Night/Open House Welcome!

Greenback Night/Open House

Hello parents.  I recorded a quick video for you but due to some technical difficulties, the video was not uploading, so we’ll do it the old fashion way and I can type you a message.

Welcome to AP U.S. History!  I have really enjoyed having your child in my class.  Things have been going very well with the distance learning.  Attendance has been very good, and students are engaged and turning in work (mostly).

A quick overview.  AP U.S. History covers pre-1492 all the way to 2020 (there will be some things to talk about for 2020 for sure!)  We focus a lot on writing, analysis and critical thinking…all college level skills.  The AP Exam is in early May, and so we practice the skills needed for success on that exam.

As for tips for success in AP U.S. History, first I would say that the students should keep up with the homework readings and assignments and attend class regularly.  As with any AP course, it can get difficult to catch up once you fall behind.  I have also been trying to teach the students to stay focused on the “big picture.”  Students can sometimes get lost in the details, it is good to be able to see the larger trends and issues in history, kind of like understanding the forest vs. just the trees.

It is easiest to get in touch with me through email: wevans2@neisd.net

I am also available for tutoring if your child gets behind, needs some help, wants to discuss a grade, etc.  We just set up a quick one on one Zoom meeting and it works very well.  Just let me know or the student can contact me.

Thank you!
