External Relations
The External Relations and Grants staff ensures stakeholder engagement with neighborhood associations, community organizations, chambers of commerce and serves as a resource for local, state and federal government offices. Staff evaluates legislation, policies and rules to provide our elected officials insight into how their decisions will impact our community. Additionally, we seek and develop grant opportunities to fund educational programs and projects that benefit students, teachers, and the community.

Follow the Texas Legislature
In the United States, public education is primarily delegated to state government. The Texas Legislature is the state’s legislative branch of government, and this law-making body is comprised of two chambers. The people elected to serve in the Texas Senate and Texas House of Representatives convene every two years to consider bills and enact laws. Before a new law can be created, a bill must be voted on favorably in both chambers and signed by the Governor. The primary responsibility of the Texas Legislature is to adopt the state budget that includes funding for public education. It also enacts laws relating to accountability, testing, and high school graduation requirements.
