In Home Parent and Community Training
Program Coordinator: Christine Rostedt
NEISD is committed to partnering with families to support student success across school, home, and community environments. As part of the ARD process, the committee may consider In-Home/Community-Based Training (IH/CBT) and Parent Training and Support when a student demonstrates a need for additional support to generalize and maintain skills beyond the classroom setting.
These services are designed to help students apply skills learned at school in everyday environments and may address areas such as communication, social interactions, behavior, self-care, independence, and other skills related to the student's educational program. Parent Training and Support provides families with strategies, resources, and guidance to reinforce learning and promote consistency across settings.
The need for IH/CBT and Parent Training and Support is determined individually by the ARD Committee based on a review of student data, progress toward IEP goals, current interventions, and family input. Prior to considering these services, the ARD Committee reviews existing school-based supports and other interventions to determine whether additional services are necessary to address the student's educational needs.
Through collaboration between families and school staff, these supports can help strengthen skill development, promote independence, and improve a student's ability to successfully transfer learned skills across home, school, and community settings. NEISD values the important role families play in the educational process and is committed to providing appropriate supports when they are determined to be educationally necessary.
