Student Discipline & Hearing Officers
When a serious student behavior issue occurs, the District may hold a formal discipline conference to determine next steps. Hearing Officers are administrators who guide this process and ensure decisions are fair, consistent, and in line with District policy and state law.
When is a Hearing Officer involved?
A Hearing Officer may be involved when:
- A student is being considered for placement in a Discipline Alternative Education Program (DAEP)
- A serious violation of the Student Code of Conduct has occurred
- A formal discipline conference or expulsion hearing is required
Hearing Officers
Duties and Responsibilities
Pupil Personnel Hearing Officers are District Administrators whose primary responsibility is handling student discipline which may result in a removal from the home campus. They are well versed in State and Federal laws, District policies, District procedures, and the District Student Code of Conduct. Hearing Officers conduct discipline conferences and when necessary expulsion hearings with students who are in violation of the District Student Code of Conduct to determine if a placement at a Discipline Alternative Education Program (DAEP) for a specific behavior is justified. As administrators, they perform other duties and services to assist the community with District information, questions centered on student issues, and help to resolve problems and/or concerns.
