Metlife Critical Illness
COVERAGE
Critical Illness provides you with a lump-sum cash benefit if you or a covered family member is diagnosed with a covered critical illness.
The purpose of this plan is to help with out-of-pocket expenses and everyday costs that canoccur during recovery.
Employee coverage options are available for $10,000, $20,000, or $30,000.
- Spouse and child coverage are available for 50% of the employee’s benefit
amount. - Coverage is guaranteed for new hires as long as you are actively at work when your
coverage begins.
Once your coverage is in effect, MetLife pays you directly if you are diagnosed with a covered condition. In some cases, if the same illness occurs again after a certain time, a recurrence benefit may also be paid.
Examples of covered conditions include:
- Cancer (invasive, non-invasive, or skin cancer)
- Heart attack, stroke, or coronary artery bypass surgery
- Kidney failure and major organ transplant
- Severe burns, paralysis, coma, or loss of speech, hearing, or sight
- Infectious diseases such as COVID-19, meningitis, malaria, or tuberculosis
- Progressive diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, and ALS
- Childhood illnesses like Type 1 diabetes, Down syndrome, spina bifida, or cystic fibrosis
This plan also includes a $50 annual Health Screening Benefit. You will receive this benefit each year just for completing an eligible wellness screening, such as a mammogram, colonoscopy, or annual physical exam.
