Update December 11, 2023
The NEISD Board of Trustees approved all edits and instructional materials for the 7th grade HSAE and abuse/violence prevention curriculum to be implemented in the spring of 2024. The Board of Trustees also approved the use of the 7th grade approved materials (Choosing the Best Path) for 8th grade students in the spring of 2024 only while the SHAC continues to review 8th grade materials for implementation in the 2024-2025 school year.

The NEISD Board of Trustees approved all edits and instructional materials for the 7th grade HSAE and abuse/violence prevention curriculum to be implemented in the spring of 2024. The Board of Trustees also approved the use of the 7th grade approved materials (Choosing the Best Path) for 8th grade students in the spring of 2024 only while the SHAC continues to review 8th grade materials for implementation in the 2024-2025 school year.

The NEISD SHAC is currently gathering elementary maturation instructional materials to review for use in 4th and 5th grades. The public will have an opportunity to preview the materials being considered and the SHAC will host two public meetings prior to a recommendation being made to the Board of Trustees. Update: November 15, 2023
The NEISD SHAC approved the recommended edits for the 7th grade HSAE and abuse/violence prevention curriculum which will be presented to the Board of Trustees for their approval at the December 11, 2023 Board meeting. To ensure all students have an opportunity to receive this instruction in the spring of 2024, the SHAC has also recommended the 7th grade approved materials (Choosing the Best Path) be provided to 8th grade students in the spring of 2024 only while they continue to review 8th grade materials.
Update: October 9, 2023
The NEISD Board of Trustees approved all edits and instructional materials for the 6th grade HSAE and abuse/violence prevention curriculum to be implemented in all 6th grade health classes beginning in the spring of 2024. Students in 6th grade PE in the spring of 2024 only will also be provided this instruction since it was not included in the fall 6th grade health class.

The NEISD SHAC approved the recommended edits for the 6th grade HSAE and abuse/violence prevention curriculum which will be presented to the Board of Trustees for their approval at the October 9, 2023 Board meeting.
Update: June 12, 2023
The NEISD Board of Trustees approved all edits and instructional materials for the high school HSAE and abuse/violence prevention curriculum to be implemented in all high school health credit courses beginning in the fall of 2023.
Update: June 2, 2023
The NEISD SHAC approved the recommended edits for the high school HSAE and abuse/violence prevention curriculum which will be presented to the Board of Trustees for their approval at the June 12, 2023 Board meeting.
Update: May 8, 2023
The Board of Trustees approved the adoption of the Choosing the Best program for instruction in Human Sexuality and Abstinence Education (HSAE) and Abuse/Violence Prevention for middle school and high school. However, the approval was contingent upon edits made under the direction of the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) with approval by the Board of Trustees.
Update: May 1, 2023
Although print materials are no longer available on campuses to review, they can be reviewed at North East Sports Park during regular business hours. Also, digital resources, if available from the publisher, can still be accessed through Skyward.

Secondary print materials will be available on middle school and high school campuses for parents to review during normal school hours from April 3 - April 21, 2023. Community members can review print materials at North East Sports Park from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Digital resources that accompany these programs, if available, will be available for parent review through Skyward during the same timeframe. Please be aware that STAAR testing may occur on one or more dates within the window. If a campus is closed due to testing, materials can be reviewed at North East Sports Park from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
