Welcome to my Teacher Webpage! I hope you will have the opportunity to visit my exciting Science Lab/Classroom in the near future! I have been an Educator for 40 years, with 30 of those years right here in San Antonio's North East ISD. It is a most amazing school district! I have been with the NEISD STEM ACADEMY, a Magnet School at Lee High School and Nimitz Middle School, since the academy opened in 2007.

Over the years, I have taught ES, MS, and HS, as well as College, Adult, and Community Education in the US and abroad. Before settling in Texas just before my husband's retirement as a Career Army Officer, I taught at the International School of Bangkok and at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok,Thailand. I enjoyed teaching at both Han Yang University and at the Korean Department of Defense Administration School in Seoul and at Taegu American School in Taegu, Korea. While in Korea, I earned both my 1st & 2nd Dan (Blackbelts) from Kukkiwon World Taekwando Headquarters! Stateside, I have enjoyed teaching in Washington, California, Florida, and Texas. My current TEA Certifications include Computer Science, Counselor, Science, General Education, Health Education, Bilingual Education, and GT, with TEA "Recognized" Status as a National Board Certified Teacher.

I am a recipient of the prestigious National Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching (PAEMST), an Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Emeritus with the National Science Foundation (NSF), and I represent Texas on the Associate Teacher Advisory Board for the National Academies of Science (NAS). I serve as a manuscript reviewer for the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) and for the Journal of STEM Education: Innovations and Research. I am a Lead Teacher with the Alamo STEM Workforce Commission (ASWC) and participate with several STEM-focused organizations. Through these and other National, State, and Regional Affiliations, I have the opportunity to provide a professional educator's voice to national policy-making and to contribute to positive and proactive educational reform.

In the classroom, I am an advocate for critical thinking, inquiry-focused problem based learning, creativity/innovation/entrepreneurship, student-centered/personalized learning, and the integration of computer science across the curriculum, through programming, modeling, and  simulations. I coach our STEM CyberPatriot Teams and sponsor a Girls' Coding Club. While promoting scientific and computational thinking, along with citizenship and workforce skills for All 21st Century Learners, I strive to prepare today's students to successfully meet tomorrow's workforce challenges with skill, equity, compassion, and integrity!

Combining my committment to being a "life-long learner", with my love for travel and adventure, I have been fortunate to participate in several research projects over the years, including Holocene Climate Change and Glaciology Research in High Arctic Polar Regions with ARCUS; Geophysics/Petroleum Engineering Research in Canada's Northwest Territories and Alaska; Coastal and Gulf Erosion Research in Texas and Florida; and Geophysics/Hydrology River Studies in Nebraska and Colorado. 

Aside from teaching, organizational and philanthropic activities, traveling, presenting, mentoring, and participating in research opportunities, I enjoy "Hill Country Living" in Bulverde, TX. with my husband. My favorite leisure activites include traveling, exploring, reading, and learning new techniques & cutting-edge technologies.  Most of all, I take every opportunity to enjoy my six wonderful grandchildren and their awesome parents!
