garner students recognized at September board meeting
On Monday, September 9 the North East ISD Board of Trustees met during its regular monthly meeting and recognized two outstanding students.

INVOCATION AND PLEDGE
Garner Middle School 8th grade student Caroline Snell lead the meeting with a thought for the evening and Amadeo Cantu-Trevino, also in 8th grade, delivered the pledge to the American Flag and Texas Flag.
Caroline Snell is a member of several organizations at Garner. She is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, Student Council secretary, and Orchestra. Her parents are David and Jeannette Snell.
Amadeo Cantu-Trevino is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, Academic UIL, and Athletics. His mother is Raquel Cantu.
School health and Advisory council

The Board also recognized two dedicated members of the NEISD School Health and Advisory Council (SHAC) at the meeting. Donna Kuhnel has been a member for seven years and has served as the chair for the past two school years. Brian Walter has been a member for five years and has serviced as the vice-chair for the past two school years.
The purpose of the District School Health Advisory Council is to serve as an advisory committee to the Board of Trustees on matters involving health education, physical education and coordinated school health. It is through their leadership that the NEISD SHAC is 50 people strong and well-respected in the community and across the state.

Board recognizes girls' athletics director

The Board recognized Karen Funk, NEISD Girls' Athletics Director, who has devoted 34 years of her life to public education. She has been with NEISD for 27 years. This summer, Funk was inducted into the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association (THSADA) Hall of Honor. She was the president of THSADA last year, organized the state conference in March and the summer convention in July. Funk was the head volleyball coach at Madison High School for 14 years, before becoming the Director of Girls' Athletics at NEISD.
