African American History Month, sometimes called Black History Month, celebrates the history and achievements of African Americans. Historian Carter G. Woodson initiated the first official recognition of Black history in 1926.

Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month is observed annually in May to celebrate the contributions that generations of AAPIs have made to American history, society, and culture.
Library Services' Honors The Military website spotlights many of our digital resources about the military, duty, and service. Honor military members every day but especially on Veteran's Day observed on November 11, the anniversary of the end of World War I (1914-1918). It is a federal holiday that honors the men and women who have served in the United States military.
Social awareness is defined by the Collaborate for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) as, "the ability to take the perspective of and empathize with others, including those from perse backgrounds and cultures." To develop social awareness, students must build skills in perspective-taking, empathy, appreciating persity, and respecting others.
