School-Age Parenting
Purpose
The purpose of the School-Age Parenting Program is to reduce the number of students who drop out of school due to pregnancy and/or parenthood and to recover young parents to the education system, promoting graduation with employable skills.
Mission
The NEISD School-Age Parenting Program is committed to encourage NEISD pregnant and parenting students through education and support, to become self-sufficient, responsible, and productive citizens. In addition, the School-Age Parenting Program is designed to help students achieve academically and work toward graduation, to access community resources, assist in career readiness and/or job training, to become knowledgeable in child development and enhance positive parenting skills, and to become productive citizens.
Services
- Child care resources and enrollment assistance
- Summer School tuition assistance
- Specific plan for students needs
- Transportation available when needed for pregnancy and parenting services
- Academic and career counseling
- Referrals to appropriate community agencies including specialized health services, individual and family counseling
- Pregnancy related services, PRS instruction post-natal home based instruction
- Parenting education (including family life skills and knowledge of child development)

Do I Qualify?
- North East ISD resident and enrolled in North East ISD School
- Pregnant or parenting (male or female)
- Complies with Texas school student attendance policies
- Satisfactory progress in courses to obtain credits required for graduation

- Counselors and/or nurses on campus refer pregnant or parenting students (male or female) to the School-Age Parenting Program. Parent permission for School-Age Parenting Program to contact the student is obtained by counselor or nurse on Campus.
- School-Age Parenting Program staff will enroll student into the program. Student intake, parent permission form and pregnancy verification from a physician is obtained by the School-Age Parenting Program.
- Campus Counselor assesses student's academic plan.
- Physician requests prenatal and/or postnatal instruction (pregnancy related services, PRS instruction).
- School-Age Parenting Program staff monitors student's grades, attendance, and health care needs, and will assist with services or referrals to agencies for needed support.
