Earn College Credit While Still in High School

North East ISD high school students can earn college credit from the University of Texas at Austin through OnRamps Dual Enrollment courses.

OnRamps allows students to take college-level courses while still enrolled in high school, providing the opportunity to gain both high school credit and transferable university credit at the same time.

This program helps students prepare for the academic expectations of college while accelerating their educational journey.

What is OnRamps?

OnRamps, created by the University of Texas at Austin, is a dual enrollment program that connects high school students with authentic college coursework.

Students enrolled in OnRamps participate in two connected learning experiences:

  • A high school course taught by a trained NEISD teacher
  • A college course taught by a University of Texas instructor

Students receive separate grades for the high school course and the university course, ensuring each academic experience remains independent while still aligned.

This structure allows students to experience rigorous college-level learning while still receiving support from their high school teachers.

How Students Earn College Credit

To earn official college credit through OnRamps, students must meet specific academic requirements.

Students may qualify for credit by:

  • Achieving required course grades

  • Meeting qualifying scores on assessments such as

  • TSI
  • TSIA 2.0
  • ACT
  • SAT

Students who accept their credit will receive an official University of Texas transcript reflecting the earned course grade.

Under Texas law, credits that meet Core Curriculum requirements transfer to any public college or university in Texas. Many private and out-of-state colleges may also accept these credits based on their policies.

Benefits of OnRamps Dual Enrollment

Students who participate in OnRamps courses gain valuable academic experience before graduating high school.

Benefits include:

  • Opportunity to earn transferable college credit
  • Exposure to college-level academic expectations
  • Development of time management and study skills
  • Strengthened critical thinking and academic writing abilities
  • Smoother transition from high school to university

Students may choose to accept or decline the university credit depending on their future academic plans.
