Helping Students Prepare for College Success

Planning for college is a journey that begins long before senior year. North East ISD supports students and families throughout the college planning process by providing guidance, resources, and counseling at every stage of high school.

Through collaboration between school counselors, teachers, and college readiness programs, students receive support in exploring career interests, selecting rigorous coursework, preparing for college admissions, and planning for life after graduation.

College Planning Timeline for High School Students

Successful college planning happens over time. Below is a general roadmap to help students stay on track.

Students should focus on:

  • Beginning conversations about career interests
  • Meeting with their school counselor to plan coursework

  • Explore career interests and academic programs

  • Exploring scholarship opportunities
  • Meeting with their counselor to review graduation progress

Students may also consider enrolling in Dual Credit or OnRamps courses to earn college credit while in high school.

Students typically:

  • Submit college applications
  • Apply for scholarships and financial aid
  • Complete the FAFSA or TASFA
