At-Risk Student Support Services | NEISD

NEISD provides specialized support for students facing housing instability, pregnancy, parenting responsibilities, or other circumstances that may put graduation at risk. Our goal is simple: remove barriers and keep students on track to graduate.

If you need immediate assistance, call 210-407-0750.

Support for Students Experiencing Homelessness

McKinney-Vento Services

If your family is living in temporary housing, staying in a shelter, sharing housing due to economic hardship, or without a permanent address, your child may qualify for protections under the federal McKinney-Vento Act.

NEISD ensures students experiencing homelessness can enroll, attend, and succeed in school without unnecessary barriers.

Students may have the right to:

  • Enroll in school immediately, even without required documents
  • Remain in their school of origin for stability
  • Receive transportation assistance
  • Access free school meals
  • Participate fully in school programs and activities

Last year, NEISD identified and provided services to over 1,100 students experiencing homelessness.

Support for Pregnant & Parenting Students

School-Age Parenting Program

Pregnancy or parenthood should not prevent a student from earning a diploma.

The NEISD School-Age Parenting Program provides education, counseling, and resource support to help pregnant and parenting students continue their education and work toward graduation.

Services may include:

  • Academic planning and credit recovery support
  • Pregnancy-related services (PRS) instruction
  • Child care resource referrals
  • Transportation assistance for pregnancy-related services
  • Career readiness and job training guidance
  • Parenting education and child development instruction
  • Referrals to health services and community agencies

Our program is designed to help students remain enrolled, progress academically, and build a stable future for themselves and their children.

Why Early Support Matters

Life challenges such as housing instability or parenting responsibilities can significantly impact school attendance and academic progress.

Early identification and support increase graduation rates and long-term stability. NEISD is committed to ensuring that every student — regardless of circumstance — has access to a free and appropriate public education.
