Elementary GT Services

Throughout the school year, NEISD provides a flexible system of viable service options designed to meet the educational needs of students performing well above peers of the same age, experience, and environment. To qualify for services, students must demonstrate an academic need on nationally normed achievement and ability tests.

In grades K-2 and 3-5, identified students receive GT services through a pull-out service model from the campus GT teacher, who has completed the requisite 30 hours of GT foundational training. The GT teacher delivers services on a weekly basis and considers student interests, unique social-emotional needs, and learning characteristics.

GT learners in K-2* focus on different types of thinking through multidisciplinary units, with a focus on
  • Deductive Thinking
  • Inductive Thinking
  • Creative Thinking
  • Visual/Spatial Thinking
  • Evaluative Thinking
  • Critical Thinking

*Kindergarten begins services by March 1st.

GT students in 3-5 participate in multidisciplinary units designed for advanced experiences in literature, Socratic dialogue, algebraic reasoning, technology application, and independent studies. For example, learning is focused around:
  • Systems Thinking
  • Masterpieces and Mysteries
  • Eminent People and Philosophy
  • Depth and Complexity Icons

Elementary GT services in NEISD integrate core content areas while emphasizing self-directed learning, critical and creative thinking, research, and communication skills. Students engage in the development of innovative products and performances that result in sophisticated student work.
