Garner Middle School celebrates new facilities with ribbon cutting

9/23/2019 - Parents, students, teachers and District administrators celebrated with an official ribbon cutting.

Garner Middle School first opened its doors to students in North East ISD in 1961. Garner has evolved with its students and community over the years, and a new library, cafeteria and fine arts wing is the next step in enhancing the overall education experience on campus.

Teacher Cathryne Efron has been at Garner for the past ten years, so she’s watched much of the campus transform in front of her eyes. She says it’s so much more than a new building, it’s a source of pride for the teachers, faculty and students.

“It’s so rewarding for the teachers and students to walk into a building that has top-of-the-line furniture and equipment for us to use every day,” said Efron. “You can see the immediate pride on the faces of the students when they walk into these buildings and they realize that it’s all for them."

The District’s 2015 bond program funded several new additions at Garner, including a new kitchen and cafeteria with a performance stage, library and media center, and fine arts facility to house band, orchestra, choir and theater students.
While Garner may be changing with the times, its core mission remains the same. Every administrator, teacher and staff member on campus is there to provide the highest quality education to its students. The new facilities and technology only enhance that.

“It gives them something to be proud of," said Efron. "It gives us all something to be proud of.”
Parents, students, teachers and District administrators celebrated on Monday, September 23, 2019, with an official ribbon cutting and a tour of the new additions.
