2015 Bond
Serna ES Roofing Maintenance
The 2015 Bond Program included funding to replace selected roofed areas at seven (7) District facilities as part of the District’s planned Roof Replacement Program. Facilities in the 2015 Bond Roofing Construction Program include: Lee High School; Krueger Middle School; and Clear Spring, Northwood, Ridgeview, Serna, and Stahl Elementary Schools. Typical roof life expectancies range from 20 to 30 years based upon several factors, which include: (1) quality of the roof product and construction installation; (2) wear and tear due to foot traffic for operations and maintenance access to rooftop equipment; and (3) long-term weather conditions and resultant impacts. This project addresses the Serna Elementary School Roof Replacement and Roof-Related Work Project, which included a total roof replacement area of 8,950 square feet.

Serna ES Maintenance and Repair for Parking Lots and Drop-Off /Pick-Up Lanes
The 2015 Bond Program included funding for maintenance and repair of parking lots and/or drop-off and pick-up lanes at two District campuses (Ridgeview and Serna Elementary Schools) as part of the District's 2015 Bond Asphalt Paving Maintenance and Repair Program. The District maintains approximately 15,500,000 square feet of paved asphalt parking surfaces. Asphalt parking surfaces require periodic maintenance and repair as a result of varying geological soil conditions underlying campus parking areas, surface wear and tear from vehicular traffic, and annual weather conditions. This project addressed the Serna Elementary School Parking Lot Maintenance and Repair Project.

NEISD opens 3rd SPARK at Serna Elementary School

March 2015: Serna Elementary School is home to the District's newest school park, called a SPARK, that will be open to the public after school hours. This exciting project was a partnership between North East ISD, San Antonio Sports and the City of San Antonio to convert school playgrounds into larger park areas that the school neighborhood can use.
This park features two covered playgrounds, a football/soccer field, two multi-purpose fields, basketball court, disc golf, and bleachers.
"We want children to get off the couches, but we have to give them an opportunity," said George Block with San Antonio Sports. "By expanding our investment in elementary schools, we can get a park in every neighborhood."
The school parks give the neighborhood easy access to free exercise facilities. The SPARK park will be open to the public from sunrise to sunset on Saturdays, Sundays, and school holidays. The park will also be open during the week after school at 6:30 p.m. until sunset. The SPARK will be closed when school is in session or when use of the SPARK school ground is necessary for school purposes.
This is the third SPARK in NEISD. Larkspur Elementary School's SPARK opened March 17, 2015. Camelot Elementary School's SPARK opened in 2013.

Serna's Student Council and band members cut the ribbon at the grand opening.

Students enjoy playing on the covered playground areas.
