Finding a Future with JROTC

“My original stance on JROTC was that it was just a class filled with boring military stuff, and at first, I had no intention of joining at all!

That’s how James Madison High School Freshman cadet, Gianny Torres, felt about JROTC in the beginning, but now he’s found friends, fun, and a purpose.

“A couple of my friends were able to convince me to join after explaining the many team and leadership opportunities,” said Torres.  “I was personally drawn in by the athletic challenges and the chance to make some amazing friends.”

Despite no plans to join in the beginning, JROTC has lead Torres to a new calling in life.

“Once I move on to college, I plan to do all four years of ROTC there too, so that I can enter the Marines as an officer!”

He credits the program at Madison with helping him grow his teamwork and leadership skills.

“I've always considered myself to be somewhat of a lone wolf and was often turned off by the thought of teamwork. However, through the course of the year, I've found that I actually enjoy working in a group and being part of a team.”
