Sasha Summers Best: From student to published author.

I began my NEISD education at Bradley Middle School in the late '80s. I was having a hard time adjusting to life in the ‘big city’ and wasn’t sure where I fit in. Margaret Lozano was the school counselor at the time. Her patience and understanding helped me find my footing and the things that would connect me to my peers and bring me joy. One of those things was writing. Over the course of my NEISD education, I had two exceptional teachers that always believed in my dreams: Harriet Porterfield (Bradley Middle School) and Cynthia Jennings (Churchill High School). They challenged me to write with feeling. As a multi-published author, that’s advice I use on each and every book I publish. These three amazing women built me up and helped me find who I was and I am forever grateful for them.

Something else my days as an NEISD student gave me?

My husband. Our twenty-six years together and four amazing kids—all of which have or will be graduating from an NEISD school—are, in part, thanks to Mr. Jennings first-period History Class at Churchill High School. Maybe that’s why history is still one of my favorite subjects.

Thank you NEISD!
