Officers eat for free thanks to our Meals for Shields program

You CAN sit with us!

At North East ISD, officers eat for free thanks to our Meals for Shields program. This initiative provides a great meal and even better conversation to any law enforcement officer who wants to sit down and eat lunch with elementary students.

NEISD started Meals for Shields in 2018 as a way to encourage positive face-to-face interactions with officers while adding an extra layer of security on campus.

“We want to show the kids that the officers are their friends,” said North East Police Department Chief Wally McCampbell. “We want to make them safe and we want them to be able to come to us when they have a question or a problem.”

Meals for Shields is open to officers from any law enforcement agency. If an officer wants to participate, they must be in uniform when they check in at the front office. After that, they will head to the cafeteria where they will enter the lunch line with the students and eat together.

It takes all of us to be #NEISDsafe.
