  • How YOU can be a healthy TR student:

(Our main goal is as a school health program, so students can learn)

    1. Eat breakfast every day - Yes, you do have time! Studies show that students who eat breakfast earn better grades (especially in math) and have fewer absences and behavior problems. The nurse will not supply breakfast when you get that no breakfast headache about 10:30 am. Lunch may be at 12:10 pm or at 1:52 pm, according to the location of your 3rd or 7th period class. 2. Emergency cards are necessary. Students should return the blue card the first week of school each year. If parent phone numbers change during the school year, please call the school nurse with the new numbers. Accidents do occur. NEISD Health Services link for more info about emergency cards

    3. Special Health Needs - Please make the nurse aware of any special health needs. We will inform your teachers about special concerns in the classroom. This information will be kept confidential. Link to print a copy of NEISD Health Services Special Health Form:

    4. Insurance - Health insurance is available for students age 18 and younger through the CHIP program and TEXCARE Partnership. NEISD Health Services CHIP information

    5. Immunizations - When you get immunizations, please bring the updated shot record to the school nurse so that we can update your health folder. NEISD Immunization requirements from Health Services and the State of Texas

    6. Protect yourself - Wash your hands frequently http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/op/handwashing.htm, do not share drinks or food with friends. Get enough sleep (at home at night—not in class). If you have a temperature above 100.4 degrees, please remain at home. Diseases spread rapidly if ill students are in the classroom.

    Clarification of NEISD Medication Policy

Special Health forms for medication or any special health needs, you may pick up the Special Health Form from the Nurse’s office. As stated in the NEISD Student Handbook:

    1. A parent or guardian is to bring all medication in the original, properly labeled bottle to the school clinic along with physician’s instructions regarding dosage amount and time.
    2. The number of pills will be counted and documented by the nurse (or clinic assistant) and the parent when the medication is brought to the clinic.
    3. At the end of the school year, the parent must pick up remaining medication. Medication left in the clinic will be discarded.
    4. An updated form from the doctor is required each school year. Please call the nurse if there are any questions.
