Her heart is in the library

POSTED APRIL 2023

Nereida ChavarriaThis month, we celebrate School Library Month.

North East ISD is fortunate to have an incredible team of dedicated librarians supporting our teachers and students.

Nereida Chavarria is in her second year at Ridgeview Elementary School. She loves being able to reach every child as a bilingual librarian.

“My first language is Spanish, so I know how much of a need there is. I’m able to read to them in Spanish and English or I can translate the books for them. That was one of my goals when I started. I’m working on expanding our Spanish library.”

Chavarria worked in accounting before she became a teacher. When she realized her heart belonged in the library, she decided to go back to school to obtain her master’s degree and is proud to have her first librarian job at Ridgeview.

“Taking my own daughters inspired me to be a librarian,” explained Chavarria. “I worked as a library assistant at a high school, and I loved it. So that made me want to pursue it. Knowing all of the students is my favorite part. My heart is in the library.”
